Thank you. However, no matter what you or I say, some people are not going to get it.

Here's my 2 cents, if it's worth that much...

I understand WHAT you did, I have done the same thing, speed up to get around a line of trucks or slower moving cars. BUT, whenever I have someone else in the vehicle or on the back of my bike, I always drive / ride differently. Personally, I would have never done what you did with 2 kids in the car, no less someone else's kids. If you miss your exit then get off at the next one and turn around and go back. I myself don't have kids but I know that they can get 'on your nerves' when they get cranky and tired, especially in a vehicle. You put yourself in that situation, you should have known better.

Do I think you deserved a ticket? Yes I do. For $700?? That is beyone excessive.

Less than 2 weeks ago I rode to Nashville. Between the Kentucky border and Nashville, where the speed limit is 70 mph, you would get run over if you went the speed limit. Semi's bump drafting, most traffic going 80+, you had to go that fast just to keep up with everyone else. I don't know what it was like where you got your ticket but I just think you made a bad decision and unfortunately will have to pay a high price for that decision. Good luck in court, let us know how it turns out.

Own a trucking company and deal with tickets on a regualar basis: here's the scoop. 20 over is considered wreckless driving and the fines are astronomical. Some states will suspend your license for 30 days on a wreckless, pay the 7 bills and count your blessings. I know it's hard to swallow, but...
Tift county is a MAJOR speed trap, they have to pay for all those nice, new Hemi Chargers. Just be thankfull you didn't get popped in a construction zone...add at least a hundred on top of it all.

Just as my own personal note: like your site, BUT, you're a retard for doing 90 with infants in the car. Bash me if you want, won't change my mind.

In many states, 90mph is bordering on Reckless Driving as far as the law is concerned. $700 sux, but it's better than a reckless driving ticket.

The magic number is 20 MPH over the speed limit. Could have been doing 65 in a 45 and the outcome is the same. They could have confiscated the car, cited you for child endangerment, taken you to jail, whatever. Pay the fine and feel lucky. And yes, I also do 80 in a 70 zone here in California. I accept responsiblility for that. If others want to go 90+, that is their business and ticket, not mine.
Sometimes I will do the same as you and what one does is their own choice. I wouldn't bother with the judge. Like the above says you could have been cuffed and stuffed. 700 is steep but not much you can do I guess.

So how didwe get the idea ingrained so deeply that "speed kills?"

What good is a law without teeth and wait for the insurance bill to increase too. The only thing that saved you from being haul away and car towed probably was the kids. I don't think it's a matter of what a state or towns make for money it's all about safety and if people don't care about their lives what about others that have no control.

I was thinking the same thing...

Apparently it's okay to run 70-75 with infants in the car but 90???

First, it was probably for a short burst to get around some cars but secondly, if you're gonna have an accident, I don't think 10-15 mph is going to create any more problems.

Some of you guys make it sound like he was recklessly whipping in and out of traffic, blowing around cars on the shoulder, blah, blah, blah...

For God's sake, he stepped on the gas to go around a band of trucks. He didn't say he cut anyone off, he simply was in the wrong place at the right time. He was speeding and got busted. He didn't complain about getting the ticket, he just thought it was excessive. (so do I)

I love it when someone tells a story of what happens and all the safety ***** come out and all the perfectos that have never been late on a payment, have never borrowed money, never done anything wrong, never speed....come out.

I'd love to see all the glass neighborhoods the majority of this board lives in.

So, what you're telling me is you're okay with someone running 70-75 with your kids in the car but not 90?

You honestly think 10-15 mph is going to make a difference? I assure you someone flipping a car at 70-75 isn't going to come out of that situation any better than someone running 85-90.

I am the farthest thing from a safty ****
No, actually you're worse. You're a damn tree hugger (according to your link to your website http://www.ace-ga.com/index.html and I quote
"The mission of Augusta Conservation Education is to inform the public of the importance of caring for our earth and all of its natural resources. We do this by performing conservation education shows. These demonstrations emphasize the importance of Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse.)

... that's right below a safety ****.

I'll bet people like you hate those of us that drive H2's also....
