Is the post lead?
In the old days car dents were repaired with lead.
(Not sure if solder is lead).
So get a lead stick, a small torch, build up the post with molted lead, file to shape, tap threads and reconnect harness.
Good luck.

New battery and think about having the dealer or someone else that is good with mechanics install the thing.

Does this post look like your original battery? I dont recall mine having that large gap. My new one did come with a brass spacer if needed and helped cable to sit flush.

Some places will cover that as a defect or weak post if the battery is new enough.

OP you try the solder stunt you are committed and make sure the solder in question is real lead, a lot of the stuff in hardware stores is aluminum based, won't mix, your post will melt off first. Secondly you will damage the case and the heat transfer to the internals is not good for the battery. You can make it work but for how long?

Ok, to begin with those posts haven't been "lead" for decades,, some or most are a lead alloy with metals of zinc, tin, antimony and others.
Most of common solder is also non-lead,, yet made of alloys that freely and easily bond with the current electrical connections used not only in the battery market but typical current vehicle wiring.
There is no need to purchase "lead".
The simple process of solder tinning of the components will determine if adhesion is going to occur or if a flux will be needed to assist.
Since when is "Open Flame" needed to solder.
I would have been able to have that terminal/cable connection repaired and installed on the bike in a permanent and reliable manner in a matter of minutes (not hours) with common tools in the garage..
My point for you was it does nobody good when a speculation is offered when rampant with mis-information or total lack of knowledge.
If you just want to up your post count,, why not go back to the new members section and greet people?

Your photo shows a East Penn made Battery...In fact that's one of the differences between an East Penn made OE Harley battery and an East Penn made "Other" battery (e.g. Deka, Big Crank, Duracell, etc), the OE Harley is made to have the Terminal flush with the case...no spacer needed

There are other manufactures like the battery that the OP shows that use a threaded block that fits inside the Void of that Perimeter Terminal

Try this out: Call up the manufacturer and ask if they can Recase the battery. Many of them will do this for a very small fee and your problem will be solved.

Hate to say but I would recommend that you buy a new battery. Like others said, you know full well that it will fail at the worst possible place. Even if you do get it tovwork, your going to have to watch it or check it once in a while. You can't trust it. Be more.of a headache for me.

My $ 0.02 of course....

Good.luck on whatever you do and let us know results.
