The Daytona Skull Cap gets my vote. I landed on it after a recent accident. It saved me from serious injury. I bought another new one after the accident.
So looking for a half helmet for this NC summer heat. I had one before and it gave me a bit of mushroom head so trying to find one that isn't as bad. I know basically all half helmet will give you some but was looking for someone with experience with several brands to see what you think is best.
And I know this question has been asked before but for some reason the search function hates my phone and won't work.
I will second for the Akoury , they have a new model which is made from carbon fiber and is lighter and costs a little more money . It looks really cool and like stated is DOT approved with no mushroom head . Just a side note there was a study done in Brazil years ago that found that wearing no helmet riders had less head injuries as compared to wearing a half helmet . So according to the Brazilian study a half helmet is worthless, but at least you are legal . I do not agree with the head injury findings, but they also looked at facial trauma, nose, cheeks, chin. They even reported on reconstructive facial surgical rates so you don't look like a monster to the lady in your life . It was no surprise that the full faced helmet offered great protection in all areas . I will be buying the carbon fiber Akoury myself .
WSB, (aka Crazy Al are the same helmet) are by far and away the smallest and lightest DOT helmet made. I honestly dont see how it is DOT approved. I really dont.
I have several half helmets. They've always been my favorite for summer riding. It's hard to beat the Bell Pit Boss. But also take a look at the Scorpion Covert. It's of the newer modular design and has a face shield that comes in handy when the bugs are out in heavy numbers.
Does DOT actually require the helmet manufacteur to give them a helmet to be tested in their lab, or do the helmet makers test their own designs on the honour system and report back to DOT for a sticker ?

The DOT standard works on the honor system. SNELL has a much more rigorous testing process.
Ended up getting a crazy Al helmet. Had a local shop here in Fayetteville that stocks them. Turns out I'm a medium and not a large like I thought, so it's good they had them to try on. Also got it for $95 out the door with my military discount
