It's not the engineers...it's us!. We are the dumbasses that put up with this chit and let them nickel and dime us to death. I like my Heritage but not a big fan of the Harley company. They thrive onthe loyal Harley riders to take it up the *** from them with their outrageous pricing.
Try buying stuff for a wide glide sometime[:@][X(]"This piece you need for your bike fits every dyna except yours.
Ain't that the truth!! And like others have said, when you buy something to add on you have to buy other kits and pieces to mount what you bought and move what's in the way.[:@] I just ordered a set of saddle bags and mini floorboards for my '04 Wide Glide. If I ordered from the MoCo I would have to buy a mounting bracket kit, and also a kit to move the turn signals. I ordered from J&P Cycles, the bags come with all mounting hardware and if I understood right I won't need to move the turn signals. Plus, these bags are about 33% bigger than HD's, for the same or less money. It's not ALL about the money, but when I can get more and pay less somewhere else I'm gonna do it.[sm=rant.gif] (maybe!)
You can either pay the price, find it cheaper elsewhere, or do without. It is supply and demand.
HD knows a lot of riders are not wrenches and this is also an incentive to the dealers to sell this stuff as it brings in cash to the service dept. as well.
So demand better engineers at the stockholder meeting! and could you pelase pass me some dividens? My wallet feels a bit light from my first payment![8D]

Actually, it's not the Engineers that dictate price, it's the marketing machine.
So if it all fits together, the Eng Dept did their job.
Oh yeah I have a few gripes about the way things are engineered, but they didn't ask me. Keeps me busy modifying.
I am a mechanical engineer (aka RUB). America has the best engineers in the world, they just also happen towork for the worst corporations in the world that are run my accountants.
THe ford pinto ( iknow P.O.S) gas tank explosions was forseen by an engineer who suggested the installation of a $6 part, accounting over rode him becase at 1 million cars that would cost the company 6 million dollars. I'm sure if they offered that six dollar part as an option buyers would have bought it.
