Okay ... just got a Limited & want to detach the tour pak for around town, etc... Seems like some recommend the HD conversion kit with the bag lights AND others recommend just removing the stock brackets (4 screws), replacing the tail light on the fender with a 'run-stop-signals' unit and use some type of fillers to hide the open areas.
For fillers alongside the saddlebags Id use something like what Ciro has for run/brake/turn. Best to show the morons coming up behind you as much brake light as possible while you slow for traffic. You lose a lot of light when the tourpak is off the bike.
I used the HD removable kit and it is a very easy one person job to remove and re-install. I relocated the AM/FM antenna to inside the front fairing. Although they come with the quick detach kit, I never cared for the light strips that mount to the saddlebags so I used the HD lgts between the fenders and bags.
It's a clean looking set-up with the pack on or off.
I have the HD kit complete with antenna relocation to the fairing, and the LED lights on the saddlebags. I like the functionality and the ease of the conversion, just remember to tape up the harness when the trunk is removed. Eventually I'll get the fillers between bags and fender, but they aren't a priority right now.
Hey, I read somewhere that the 'filler' lights (like you have) work but the turn signal indicator flashes in hyper mode until the tour pak is reinstalled & that the rear flashers will not work with the ignition switch in the off position. Do you experience those issues on your bike?

What say you
Bought the Detachable Tour Pak kit from Boadtracker for $470 shipped. Picked up a SG seat from a forum member here for $150. Put it together yesterday, took about 3 hrs but I was being pokey. Probably couldve done it in two. I am very happy with the results.
I too like the inserts but I think the bag lights are more visible. Just my opinion.
So, you used the bag light bars. Do those come with the kit, or did you get those separately?
the kit comes with a wiring harness, both saddlebag lights, detach mount brackets, detach base plate for tour pak, license plate bracket, chrome antenna bracket and antenna cable
You can do everything you need to with just this kit and a 1/2, 9/16 and maybe a 5/8 wrench (trying to remember) and a 25 and 40 torx.
I am not any kind of mechanic and this was easy
