I bought my wife a new 3/4 helmet Sunday at a little shop we frequent in Drasco, AR. It was an open box special Bell Mag-9, candy apple red. We got it for $75. When we got home, she was researching the helmet and found that it's supposed to have hinge plate covers for when you take the visor off to cover the hinges and also operate the sun shield. I called the shop where we bought it and he said he didn't have them. I sent an email to Bell asking if they were available and how much they were. I got an email today saying they were on the way to us, no charge.
I wore Bell helmets, back in the early 1970's. When they left the market, I had to bring in Shoei and/or Arai. Now that Bell is back, I might take another look.
Turns out that I know the widow of the guy that was "Bell."
She tells me stories of "the beast" a bike built for Bonneville. It's still in her garage in Palm Springs, she says.
BUY a SIMPSON NMRA or NHRA COMPETITION and KEVLAR & CARBON FIBRE MATERIAL AND RACING Rated helmet . *IF* YOU have a 10 dollar head, buy a 10 dollar helmet.
Back in the day, Bell helmets were state of the art. Shoeing and Arai were the cheap knockoffs. Things have changed, but in my opinion, Bells remain a good quality lid.
