Any recommendations on those rain overboots like Totes. I did a search in the forum and come up with I guys opinion on a rain suit reply. He said the gore-tex boots don't always hold up.
Hows the footing and shifting with these things on? Are they durable? Or should I stick with waterproofing the hell out of my engineer boots or wearing my gore-tex boots?
i use frogg toggs and the HD gaitors that slip over my riding boot. was in some pretty good downpours in the Cascades last weekend and i was dry as a bone. no problem with shifting or braking with the gaitors.
We have HD rain gators. They are not a full boot, but just cover the front and sole. they are easier to put on and take off, and they will keep you dry.
You might also consider Cruiserworks riding boots. They are waterproof, light weight, have protective armor, and are very comfortable, even to walk in.
Raining so much around here this weekend it's closing roads.I would need a sump pump for my Deuce. Screwing up my weekend ride. I would take my beater cage out let alone my ride.
I've used Tingley rubber overboots for years. They are similar to Totes. Footing is very stable, I can shift without any problems, they keep my feet totally dry and they are very durable. My first pair lasted about 15 years and my second pair is going on 5 years now.
gman, I was looking at the froggs toggs today. Are these something you wear over your leathers (or cold weather gear) and are they pretty durable?
need to get a size bigger to allow you to wear over your leathers. they are pretty amazing. looking at them you wouldn't think they were worth a darn, but they keep you dry and breath so you don't sweat when wearing them. They are pretty cheap compared to some of the others around. get the overall pants to keep the rain from going down your crack. I got a great price from: http://outdoorboss.com/

I have a pair of Gore-Tex leather boots, military issue, and swear by them.
Had these boots on during the ride home from the Harley 100th Anniversary Celebration in Miluakee, Wisconsin, Labor Day of 2003. The entire ride home that Monday, 9 hours, was in the rain. Steady rain, with some fairly heavy downpours thrown in. The only comfortable parts of my body were my feet. Not one spot of dampness on my feet or socks. The rainsuit I wore allowed water to seep in at the cuff of the sleeve, and the collar around the neck allowed water seepage. The HD nylon rainsuit, after 9 hoursof riding, had me feeling like I had been in a sauna room.
Gore-Tex boots not only keep your feet bonedry, but also eliminate the sauna bath feeling that rubber overboots would produce.
I've had the same riding boots for 20 years and have always gotten by with waterproofing them right before a multi-day ride. I do havenormal type outdoor boots that have some gore textypeliner in them that I've rode with a few times but haven't encountered any rain yet.. I think I'll see how they stand upand then go from there to the gaiters or rubber boots.
