Why do you twits insist on introducing worn-out, dis=proven , wives-tale remedies for something that is NOT a problem?

Boredom, drugs, OCD, or the concept that there is always a magic bullet waiting in the breech.

The oil can and will cause excessive carbon buildup in the top end on the valves and in the combustion chambers and piston crowns. IMO, and YMMV, its snake oil, or more specifically an old mechanics tale
Exactly. the only part of the valve which requires lubrication is the valve stem, and that gets taken care of by the oil pumped up to the rocker boxes. all adding oil will do is risk trashing your O2 sensors and the catalyst (if it's still there, that is.)

I think this whole thing got started back during the phase-out of leaded gas. the tetraethyl lead additive was meant as an octane booster, but it also had a side benefit of forming a sacrificial coating on the valve seat which prevented erosion. when lead was removed and engines still had non-hardened seats, microwelds would form between the valve head and seat over time and erode them pretty quickly.

aluminum heads all have hardened alloy valve seats so it's not a problem anymore.

In a 4-stroke the oil would end up in the sump which causes overheating and gumming. **** Facebook.
nothing you put in the gas tank will help a "worn out" engine. You'd be better off with an oil additive which contains viscosity modifiers and ZDDP.

almost the entire market for fuel and oil additives is based on convincing people they have problems that don't actually exist. They're basically tiger-repelling rocks.* Some dude will say "I put in a bottle of Shmendrik's Oil Potion and Personal Lube at every change, and my car has 150,000 miles on it now!" Never have an answer if you ask "and what makes you think it wouldn't have gone 150,000 miles so far on just regular oil changes?"

Adding two-stroke oil to the fuel of an older diesel engine is not unheard of. The thinking there is that the engine was not designed to run on today's Ultra Low Sulpher diesel fuel and the added lubricity of the two-stroke oil would help out the top end. In that circumstance - it may not be a bad thing; I've done it myself.

As for a gasoline engine - don't see the benefit.

Most of the 2 stroke oil, MMO, ATF, and the like additives are being used to stabilize the shitty fuel we have these days. A couple of ounces or so in a tank of fuel before you park it for a while helps the fuel from going off. I have a couple of 35 year old BMW twins that are carburated and it works great for that. By the way, I use ATF in mine.

There is nothing oil added to your fuel would get to two oil lubing would help. If it did, then you have other issues like worn valve guides or seals, or piston rings.
