The commonwealth of Virginia has just added civil penalties to traffic fines. The penalties range from $750 to $3000 on top of the traffic fies and court costs. This is in an effort to raise funds for roads without raising taxes. Ouch!!
As I stated in an earlier post. The lawyers have finalized ther dominance of the Dominion. Ued to live in Chesapeake, Western Branch, great place to raise kids at the time. Would not categorize the LEO's in Virginia as Barney Fifes, met good and bad there, no different than anywhere else. I have myCo headquarters there, will use taxis from now on when I visit and minimize my time and money I spend there. Sorry for my fellow Citizens that live there but you guys continue to vote these crooked $*** bag lawyers into office so they can enrich themselves off your misfortune and make your lives miserable in the process.
I'll be riding down to Ol' Virginny in August. Thanks for the warning. I usually behave myself anway, but if I get sited for chickensh!t I'll spend my vacation money in some other state from now on.
But you can be sure the Barney Fifes(sp) will be out like Flies.
"There once was a deputy called Fife,
Who carried a gun and a knife.
The gun was all dusty,
And his knife was all rusty,
Because he never caught a crook in his life."
I am always happy to see existing laws enforced as written. This wouldn't be so bad if the rural speed limits in most of the US weren't so ridiculously low. On a multi-lane expressway out in the middle of no where, even 65 or 70 is too low.
Just look at the Autobahn. The unrestricted sections do not have a higher accident rate than the restricted sections. Why? It is a sanctionable offense to drive in the left hand lane when the right hand lane is free and you are not overtaking. Also, most commercial vehicles are required to drive in the right hand lane and are not allowed to drive faster than their rated speed.
We also need more rigorous driver safety examinations, they need to be mandatory after an accident in which you are at fault, and across the board they should need to be retaken every 10 years. And driving safety examinations should be more rigorous.
Then maybe we can see a more reasonable approach to rural speed limits in this country.
Somebody PLEASE tell me what the hell a commonwealth is??!! I live in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and don't know the differences between a commonwealth and a state.
Gary D.
I apologize if i offened any LEO's. Who I was referring to were the police inevery little borough and berg trolloing the interstates andhighways looking to increase revenue andcasting a wide net.
My big fear is: if this program is successful other states will take notice and impliment a similar program.
The civil fines, which are imposed on Virginia residents only, are paid in three installments. First at the time of the court sentencing, the second and third on the anniversary date of the offense and is paid at the DMV. I haven't seen anything that describes what is done in the event the convict moves out of the state before the last installments are paid.
Some other fine points on this are: - $300 for failure to use a turn signal. - $300 for entering a highway without stopping first. - The 20+ over the speed limit is a biggee, but anything over 80mph is $1050 for three years.
You can bet the patrols are licking their chops at this. Makes their day a whole lot more worth while.
