Side-zip is ****. Get a pair of real boots and be done with it. Chippewa (sp?) makes a damn fine boot. I have three different pair sitting here in my room. One for summer work and riding, one for cooler/cold work and riding and one for plain damn cold riding. If I had the scratch though, I'd go with a couple different pair from here...
I have a pair of Wesco boots that are between 4-5 yrs old. Other than normal heel and sole wear they are still in excellent condition. Probably in a year or so I'll send them back to wesco for a $250 rebuild. I use Obenaughs leather conditioner on them twice a year. They are soft and pliable and very comfortable to wear. These are heavy riding boots very sturdy and will protect your feet in most situations. I have a pair of custom made Harness boots. When I checked the prices it was more than a little breathtaking. Mine are waterproof *Obenaughs). All materials and construction are American made. If you can get past the original cost these boots are good for a life time of riding. I hope this helps.
