Default Help to much Throttle slack

Just had the idle and throttle cables replaced, tech left way to much slack on the throttle. Can I reduce the slack by adjusting the idle cable ( rear cable ) only ? Seems simple enough just never did it before.
Thanks for any tips/ advise

If you remove the air filter you should see the cables moving the throttle valve. Adjust each cable by adjusting the nuts under the rubber boots behind the throttle handle until you have the right feel. Mine is now more responsive and feels so much better.

Make sure to turn the bars side to side and check the response as well. Sometimes when adjusting the cables with the wheel pointing straight will cause binding when turned left or right.

Thanks Lab, So both cables need to be adjusted to reduce slack?

Roll the throttle wide open while listening down by the carb or throttle body and see if you hear a click when the throttle is wide open. If so it's hitting the stop and the throttle cable is doing its thing. Take up the slack by adjusting just the idle cable. If you don't hear that click then best bet is to do the full adjustment that Ripsaw posted.

It's a little different for each model and year of bike. For example, I replaced my cables on my '98 FXD and did the adjustment of them as I remembered my Harley Service Manual telling how to do it for an '09 FXD.

When I was done though, or thought I was done, the htrottle wouldn't return properly when the handlebars were turned full left. I went inside and read the instruction in my Harley Service Manual for my '98 and it was slightly different but made a world of difference in the end.

Doing it by just hit and miss will take much longer and you can still mess something up, like have too much (and possibly break a cable after hardly any use) or worse too little threads in the adjuster(s) and suddenly one pops or breaks loose and you could be in a world of hurt if you don't have your head on right and ready for any emergency.
