I remember having to use a wrench at times to get mine off, just for added leverage since my hands were oily but it certainly wasn't something my fingers were capable of doing.

I agree, there is no way that cap came unscrewed on its own, before I took it to a dealer I would change the oil and see what happens.

I remember accidentally popping the oil cap on my iron a few times when I owned it. Not unscrewed mind you but popped up. It was a simple push down pop up then unscrew cap. And i know a few times I found it popped up after a ride I assume I pushed on it with my leg at some point

Thanks for all your input
the bike is still less then a year old
so the warranty is still valid (2 years here for new bikes)
but i am sure if they find someone tampered with it it’s not valid
I think I will check the oil tonight as you are suggesting and if there is no start, will get it taken to the dealer to do a diagnostic
Also when I ride it home on Friday the engine was hesitating to start and almost cutting out at several points on my short ride home
that's why I think it was tampered with
its too much of a coincidence that the oil cap was left in that position
I have been riding sportstets for quite some time and never has it popped up by rubbing against it
Anyway I hope I’m wrong and it’s just a minor problem .....
lets see
thanks again guys for your comments
I let you know by the end of the week

Hard to imagine something that could have been put into the oil tank that would have an immediate effect on how it runs.

Seems to me that you've either got a warranty claim, or you've got an insurance claim.

The fact that your oil light came on is cause for concern, if I read that right.
Let us know.

Yes the light came on and stayed on yesterday when I flicked the switch
so i know that’s not good news
i just read a story regarding locked oil and gas caps
they mentioned it could be as much as 6k to replace a motor damaged by oil tampering
all i can do is see tomorrow when it goes in
**** i hope it’s just a matter of cleaning the oil as some people have mentioned on this thread

Im pretty sure your oil light is going to light when you flick your switch- it measures oil pressure- not volume in the tank. Its gonna stay lit till you start it right?

Running problems like that sounds more fuel-related than oil-related. Maybe your gas was messed with?
