changing m8 spark plugs

Service manual on my 18 FLHCS says to remove plug wires, remove plugs. Nothing mentioned removal of the tank......until you get to the picture where it says (tank removed for clarity).
So...unless you can deduce...service manual does not always have all the answers. Which is why God created forums. So we can ask for advice when things are not totally clear.
Literally taken from the SM:
1. See Spark Plug Cable. Remove cables retainers (5).
2. Remove cables (1–4) from ignition coil.
3. Remove boot from spark plugs.
4. Remove cables.

upon further inspection...I was reading the section on plug wires...not plugs. Here is what is says on plug removal:
1. Remove seat. See Remove.
2. Purge fuel system. See Prepare.
3. Remove main fuse. See Main Fuse.
4. Remove fuel tank. See Prepare.
I'll just shut up now.
