Spoken like a true sheep. Who said anything about shooting someone? I do carry when I travel and can carry in any state. However, deadly physical force for the protection of property is not justified. That is why I also carry a small bat. Physical force is justified to protect property in most states. I'll take my chances. I'll be damned if I am going to just stand by and let it happen.
Between truckin' and bikin' over the past 40+ years, I've probably spent more nights in cheap motels than you ever will, and I've been armed every one of those nights. Gonna bring a small bat to a gun fight?
At what point during the theft do you shoot the thieves when they ignore your commands to stop stealing your (hopefully insured) bike? If they DO stop loading your bike and turn towards you with their weapons drawn, which one are you gonna drop first, Batman? What did the 911 operator tell you to do when you called to report a theft in progress before you stepped out of your room?
Can you "stand your ground" after initiating a confrontation on someone else's property?
I'm not saying I'd never use a gun to protect my property but I'd be real wary of initiating an armed confrontation in the middle of the night, in a motel parking lot a long way from home, over a motorcycle.
It's not like the old days when I traveled with my wife and kids and REALLY had something to protect.
I find that people who believe that submission is a peaceful resolution to the threat of violence tend to end up being inevitably victims.
I also find the same people who advocate submission tend to be aggressive in their argument, implying you would have to be ignorant to defend oneself, arrogantly, as if they would know better than you. I do not value the advice of a man who's ideology it is to submit.
Submission is a position to be forced into, not volunteered for. Weakness is an invitation to violence.
Do you understand what can happen to someone who shoots people in a motel parking lot, a long way from home? You'd better have a damn good reason and money for a good lawyer.
I have insurance for that too. Their dead and I call my lawyer. Works for me sucks to be him.
"Support your local Red & White" sticker prominently displayed on your battery box. Very good chance, that bike won't be messed with. (Altho, you might want to check with a field office if this is ok to do...)
With the weather getting nicer and wanting to plan road trips was wondering how you lock down your bikes at hotels?
I have the HD keyless system with alarm and would also fork lock it, anything else? Disc lock?
Thanks everyone!
Besides locking my forks, I also have a disc lock and if possible, I also try to find a ground level room and park my bike in front of my room and leave my window open just in case.
First year used a disc lock and parked it in places that made everyone look at me.
Maybe I am niave. But do Harleys really have that much of value these days, other than to us?
I guess it depends on the bike, or some people just get lucky sometimes. When I was in Daytona for Biktoberfest in 2013 I saw a 883 parked in front of an area with a lot of other mc's around it, (the parking area not easily in sight of where the people were partying) and the key was in the ignition. I had no idea who the owner was or where he was to tell him. Anyway, the guy eventually came out and got on his bike. He looked embarrassed when he discovered he left the key in the ignition.

That's what I did sometimes when I first started doing LD trips.
My guess would be LEOSA. Google it...it works for me.
In this case, I doubt it. That is why I asked. You really believe LEO will carry a bat and commit assault and battery on someone for stealing a bike, instead of calling local LEO’s and then going for an arrest? Best to think before you post.
I am quite aware of how to look for information on Google, thank you.
