I meant that LEOSA works for me... in other words, that's how i'm able to carry in every state. As far as me really thinking a LEO would carry a bat and commit assault on someone stealing a motorcycle... well I certainly hope not. But that's not what you asked. I guess it really is "best to think before you post". Sometimes i wonder why even bother.

Thank you.

Look, I respect LEO. If you are LEO, then I appreciate what you do for the community, and thank you for your work and sacrifice. However, the the original post was about some guy carrying in every state - and by the content, he was likely not LEO... yet your response was that he may be able to carry due to the LEOSA. Really does not follow the thread, does it?

Getting back to the original post, when I travelled cross country, I think this helped:
- I used a disk lock with siren
- I stayed at nicer hotels (known chain hotels)
- I parked in front in view of the front desk
- I left nothing on the bike

Nothing happened, and I think it was helpful.

Sanjuro

Thanks for your support. I'm aware of what the OP was about. You asked how the poster was able to carry in all jurisdictions. AFAIK, LEOSA is the only vehicle that legally allows for that. Could be wrong.

I have a 800 +lb bike. I lock the forks and ignition. Put on a disc lock with a bright orange reminder cable to tell me it is there. It also shows any thief that it is there. Finally, I park by the front door under the canopy. Only 1 place asked me to move it after a shift change. the original front desk person said okay but the third shift called my room and asked me to move it. If someone is desperate enough to risk all that then good luck to them. I have insurance and I can rent a car home.

I bring raingear, tools, phone charger, gloves etc into my room and basically there is nothing left in the saddlebags but half used water bottles, beef jerky that kind of thing.
I do not customize my bikes to where my exposure is much beyond my casualty deductible. My Road King and Sportster have Stage 1, highway pegs - stuff like that. I pay my insurance company to take the risk for me. My broken-in boots, notebook computer and the like go into the motel room with me for the night. In the case of the latter, there's more of a chance of that walking from a staff member than my bike being stolen.

I like this.

For over 20 years I've been attending Bike Week and Biketoberfest in Daytona. Really can't remember locking even so much as my ignition switch or bikes. I've left the key in the Sportster a few times out of forgetfulness. Perhaps because of all the mass of bikes, most glitzier than mine - I've been fortunate. When touring I take the more valuable items off the bike, as mentioned earlier ... to include broken in boots; it's not easy to replace quality, well cared for, well broken-in boots! I certainly don't want my bike stolen, but considering how Plain Jane they are compared to many, and considering how much other stuff I have in my life to fill the stress cells in my brain - I just haven't much cells left for worrying about my bikes.

I take the multi level approach ...

I lock the forks
I installed the Harley siren with beeper
I bought a Wsdcam on Amazon for 14 bucks .. Chinese .. its loud .. havent use it yet.
I have the lock that goes on the brake disc.
I have the lock for the detach trunk. This is probably just something that will slow them down .. but with the alarms any movement of the bike will draw attention.

If they get it .. then they've worked for it .. but I'm pretty sure with these kind of measures, they will move on to another bike. Thats the shitty part ... I'm indirectly saying "steal the next bike"

Disc locks, front and back. If you only lock the front, the front end can be lifted and the bike wheeled off. With both wheels locked they have to lift the whole bike and Harley's ain't light. I don't bother with chains on the road because anything strong enough to make a difference is heavy and bulky. I camp most of the time, but if i stay at hotels i try to find ones with secure parking.
