Much cheaper to rebuild the starter yourself. JP Cycles has all the parts you would need. Replace the starter clutch and you'll be golden.

Ya. I went with bigger kw on my 01, cause I built the engine.

The battery is only a couple years old..

Are you sure it is not the compensator starting to go bad? There were some issues.
