My starter on my 07 heritage is starting to make a noise every once in while. So, how hard is it to remove the starter? I hate the thought of bringing it to the dealer.
Its not bad on the 6 speeds. You don't have to remove the outer primary. 1/4 ball allens help. I bough some really long allen sockets, which help alot.
I have 2-1 exhaust so easy to get at. Not sure if the crossover is in the way. Plus the with stock exhuast the starter mounts to the exhaust mount.
Mine makes noise once in awhile, and I know I should be just replace it. It seems to be more of an issue when I haven't rode for awhile and hot. Even though i had it on a charger, when for 35 mile ride it kicked back. Next time going for ride fine.
Now the question is, are you replacing starter or starter clutch? On my 01 that I built to 98" I went with after market bigger starter. Harley starters are $$$.
What pisses me off with after market starter, is you have cut the bracket for the cross over pipe. The flange of the starter body is to big. Atleast on the ones I have seen. Pisses me off, you shouldn't have to grind brackets to put a starter in.
I put in a Terry, I liked price and made in USA. power coating came off pretty quick. But has be going for around 9 years.. Lots of guys go with allbalz, can't remember why I chose not too.

Ok sorry, I was thinking it was like my Dyna, where you have to unbolt the pinion gear and then you can slide the starter out.
OP, if your overrunning clutch is crapping out, get the All ***** brand. I replaced it on my Wide Glide and it's great.

How old is your battery? My 07 FLHTC did the same thing and it was from a weak battery.
