I appreciate your reply. Kinda the same things I noted in my first post, biggies being VIN check (to make sure it is clean I assume), and proof of insurance. Past that, I don't think the shops can spend any real time doing them due to the cost, which I believe is mandated by the state. All in all, I don't think the inspection in it's current form verifies anything about the condition of the motorcycle other than a quick visual. Naturally, I am sure different inspectors approach it differently.
I have lived in states without the inspections and you had to show proof of insurance to renew your tags, so that is covered once a year same as an inspection. Regularly hear of people getting in accidents and they don't have insurance (even in Texas), so that isn't foolproof either. If a cop sees a light not working they pull you over and ticket, so really kinda covers that too. I guess I just don't see that they serve any valid purpose. States without them don't have any higher accident or fatality rates.
Thanks for your reply. I am not trying to start any argument with you or anything. Just curios what value you felt they offered.
No worries, perceptions, and opinions are diverse and I honor your thoughts as well!
No inspection whatsoever in AZ unless you're bringing a vehicle from out of state...used to hafta do motorcycle emissions for years which was so ridiculous. It was just an idle test & you'd see a Ford Excursion beside you pass at 9 mpg & they'd fail your bike getting 45 mpg?!?! But they finally got rid if motorcycle emissions...
Takes 5 minutes at the dealership and costs a whooping 7 bucks.
The bigger issue is you are OK with big government. You know, like NJ and NY. Funniest part is CA is freer than you. I usually compare costal states, but have to quit. So I guess will just compare you guys to NJ and NY.

Things aren't all black and white like that. Cali may be freer in same ways and not so much in others. Texas requires an annual inspection but no helmet. Cali requires no inspection, but requires helmets to be worn, even on motorized bicycles.
Every state has their own big government things, it's just different from state to state.

Most of the country does not require. NY, NY, TX, require it.
Denial is what allows this kind of thing to happen. Look at the people in CA. You bring something up, they will say oh, never effected me, ect.
NJ no motorcycle inspection for about 10 years now.
Maybe someday Texans will revolt against the commie government. that is the cycle.
Texas just raised the age to buy tobacco to 21. I don't smoke. But they are a joke. Sadly their ego will prevent them from doing anything about the path they are on. Not really a new path. They have always been big government, they just don't admit it. Finally got open carry, despite them touting how pro gun they are. Around we had that since we we became a state, as far as I can tell.
