Saw some videos from Sturgis, S.D. Not pretty, they have had some really bad rains this past couple of days, bridge on 7th Ave. over Bear Butte Creek washed out and a couple more are being evaluated for traffic. may want to call ahead to your camp ground for updated reports.
I stay in the dorms at Black Hills State University in Spearfish during the ralley. I used to camp, but find the dorms much more convenient, although quite a bit more tranquil.
A lot of the city roads got trashed. Not sure what impact, if any, this will have on the rally.
..."It is expected that most of the debris will be cleared by the end of the week, but the road damage from heavy flooding may take months, depending on the weather. At this point in time its probably not going to take a whole lot of rain in the near future, or runoff, to induce the flooding again,"
"This is going to have an impact but at the same point we are going to be open for business for the states largest tourism event and we will have a good time for everyone,....The rally will go on
Amen to that! Cripes, last year we got soaked almost daily.
I rode in on on Friday and tent camped at Katmandu. I took the party shuttle into town and a huge storm hit around 10PM or so...Serious winds and storm. When I got back to Katmandu, I could not find my tent.. It was pitch black in my area and eventually a couple of staff saw me stumbling around and helped me and we found it in some brush about 40 yards away. They helped me get it set back up etc....can't speak highly enough of the folks there. Pretty much anyone with a tent had it flattened if it wasn't tied down extra good or decided to collapse it before the storm.
This year I am staying at Sylvan Lake Lodge inside Custer Park. Going to try a more laid back venue this time.
