Default Heat from Pipes

The proximity heat is burning the back of my right calf even though I’m wearing jeans. I’m told my 2019 Heritage Classic already has heat shields on it. What can I do? Maybe pants that hang more loosely so the fabric is not in contact with my skin below the knee? Is there a product made to protect the calf?

Does it have the bolt on heat shields already on it? If it doesn't that might help some. Maybe someone else can give you some ideas. I got rid of a lowrider because of that. It was about to burn my leg up.

Not sure. Can you tell from the photo? I just bought it new about 10 days ago.

Doesn't look like you have mid-frame heat shields.
HD sells them but Captain Itch sells nice shields too that are more protective than Harley's. FWIW...
Beautiful bike btw.

I disagree. Seems clear to me that he does have heat shields. I have taken the liberty of copying and editing in what leads me to that conclusion:

The circles (#1) show where I think the heat shields terminate on each pipe. The arrows (#2) show where the OP can look and where he should see the header underneath the heat shield. Even with low miles, there's probably some discoloration (blue or gold-ish or both) under those places on the pipe. Looks like there might be heat shields on the mufflers too, but not sure about that. You can see where the adjustment screw is for the hose-clamp that holds the shield on @ the #1 marker near the center/bottom of the pic. I'm about 99% sure there are heat shields on that bike.

My bad, I meant heat deflector.
Yes, there are heat shields on the exhaust, which most bikes do have.

I'd add an extension kit to move the boards out away from the pipes. Also might want to gut the cat.

Yes... The Heritage exhaust is fully heat shielded.

It's never a problem when I'm going down the road. However, my right pants leg can get pretty hot when I'm stopped at a long light or stuck in traffic. I'll generally bring my right leg up and put my foot back on the board (holding the bike with just my left leg) when it gets a bit too uncomfortably toasty. Holding my bike with just my left leg also helps with the heat from the primary, which can actually be in contact with my left calf. When holding the bike with my left leg down, I lean the bike just a little to the left because that steadies the weight. Another fringe benefit is that I can move my left leg further out and away from the primary.

The stock exhaust mufflers have the cats in them. Sooner or later, those will be going away. What replaces them will likely have no cats. This should reduce some of the heat. I'll likely do a stage 1 on it. Perhaps the new tune will enrich the mixture a tad and help with cooling.

One of the selling points of the new M8 Softails is that with the new design the heat in the crotch area and legs is supposed to be diminished. I still find that I'm getting a fair amount of heat coming up in that area on hot days. I do have fork wind deflectors (from JES Customs) installed on the bike. Some say the deflectors might have an impact in this regard. I haven't had a chance to experiment with that notion, but probably will now that the weather is getting pretty toasty in my neck of the woods. Up until this weekend, I had EITMS turned off. I turned it on, but have yet to take it out when it's sufficiently hot out. We'll see what impact it may have.

Where I go from there is TBD. Depends on the results of my currently planned experimentation. I'm not likely to go or do anything too radical, because the situation doesn't seem that severe.

Extension kit, yes. Gut cat- say buh-bye to your warranty on that ‘19.
