Deer took me out on ride to work
Well Brothers, It finally happened to me. About 6:45 am on Monday I got taken out by Bambi's mom. Came over a hill and saw a deer. Let her cross and when I got back up to speed...Bang. Tagged her in the hindquarters with the front fender, She was going left to right so when she hit, she turned my bars hard right and I went down. Slid with the bike for a while, then she caught and started to flip over. I let go and slid down the highway on my left side. I could feel it burning through my jeans, and thought I can't take much more of that, so I tucked my chin to my chest, pulled my arms in, and rolled it out the best I could as my bike slid up the hill on her right side. I finally slid to a stop on the rumble strips at the side of the road about 60-75 yards from where I hit her. My bike was another 60 yards or so up the hill. I was able to stand up, so I wanted to get her up and off the road. As I was trying to get her up there was a semi coming down the hill behind me, he pulled his rig in the middle of the road to block traffic for me. Another pickup stopped and 4 guys jumped out to help. It happened to be a buddy of mine and he was yelling asking if I was ok.
After I got my bike to the side of the road, that's when the pain started. I had burned through my jeans on my calf and right under my *** cheek. my forearm was torn up from the wrist to the elbow, and my fingertips were burnt from sliding on the pavement. My fingerless gloves saved my palms, and my work boots saved my ankles. Called State patrol and waited for them and my justifiably freaked out wife to show up so we could get me checked out.
I have to say, I consider myself really lucky I got out of this with some road rash and a possibly torn shoulder. I have heard plenty of stories of guys who didn't survive a 55 mph collision with a deer, let alone with no helmet. Stay safe out there guys, I'll post some pictures below.

Sometimes I think there’s something about our v-twins that causes deer to freak out and target fixate themselves right into us. I’ve had a few rides in canyons where I’ll see a deer off the side of the road frozen, staring at cars passing by but as soon as I come through they decide it’s time to run out into the road.
I know deer also run into cars, but they seem to have a preference for bikes…
