Only experienced it a couple times (garden state parkway)..esp when there is NO shoulder.. and rest areas/exit miles away.. while cooking legs, clutch, motor, and four letter vocabulary.. solutions if you can't avoid it(?)

Man good luck. I got stuck in some **** like that leaving Vegas going to LA the Monday after labor day weekend. 30 miles backup. Bike got hot. just had to keep cutting it off. I ended up feeling like I was going to pass out so the hell with the law and just split lanes to the next exit to get water. Come to find out later you can turn the throttle forward and cut off the rear cylinder to reduce heat on the motor. Other then that...plan a exit or keep shutting it off/push when you can. Carry water with you. For you , not the bike!

As a fellow jersey guy i hear ya. If no shoulder then you gotta tough it out. Are you Wearing lots of gear or do you ride t shirt and half helmet? And are you more worried about the bike or yourself?

It's not unusual for the temps to be in the triple digits in the sierra foothills. I handle the heat when I ride by bringing lots of cold water with me, split lanes when I hit heavy traffic when I go into the valley, have a oil cooler on the bike, and most importantly I ride an Evo. It can be 110 degrees and the oil temp might top out at 195. The bike is very heat tolerant....more so than I am, lol.

that's not entirely correct. rolling the throttle forward only enables/disables the eitms, it does not 'force' it into operation. once it is enabled, there are certain parameters that have to be met in order for it to operate.

Encourage legislation that permits legal lane splitting.
Riding or passing traffic on the shoulder will get you a ticket in Ca.
Not to mention the shoulder is full of stuff waiting to puncture your tires.

Had that happen in Chicago last year. It's illegal but I lane split. No way I was going to sit there and cook. Nobody messed with me believe it or not. I actually think they were sympathetic to my situation from the comfort of their air conditioning.

I figured if I did get pulled over, I would at least get to cool off in the patrol car.

I’ll make my own lane and get through. But you have to be careful of Jersey drivers. They get angry when you do that. They don’t understand how comfy it is in the ac while were sitting on a 230° monster.
