When you dump 20k + on a new bike, you should probably discuss it with your wife beforehand.

We stress braking and swerving as "life saving skills" in BRC classrooms. Then, on the range, we really facilitate what those 2 skills require.
Many good responses , so far.

Always look both ways even when you have the right of way.
Don't put the bike in neutral at a light until there are three cars behind you and be on one side of the lane for a quick exit strategy .
If you reach back and massage the crotch of the lady on back before you get home your getting sex!!!

Your mirrors can only tell you NO. They can't tell you yes.

Ride at you own pace based upon your skill level. Don't try to "keep up" if riding with others that may be more experienced or skilled than you are.

Over time, I somehow started following too close to the vehicles in front of me in the fast lane. A couple years back a car in front of the F350 I was following slammed on their brakes and I came about an inch from eating ranch hand bumper. I now leave plenty of distance and I tossed out those undies.

Don’t put the gas cap on your seat when filling. It hurts when you sit on it.

I learned never to ride tired. I was kinda zoned out when I realized that I was going into a turn a bit too hot. It was too late to negotiate the turn and stay on the road. I rode it out into a shallow culvert and managed to stop upright. After gathering my thoughts I rode out and continued on my way. After that whenever I felt fatigued I stopped and rested for a while.
