They teach you not to brake hard in the middle of a turn. Easy to do when in the confines of a parking lot when a fast response isn't required. Best way to ride twisties faster and safer, practice it till it becomes second nature and you will do it without even thinking about it. It basically straightens the curve for the rider, couple it with looking into the curve (where you want to go), you'll have mastered the basic skills to be a better rider on twisty roads. I assume whoever talked to you about laying a middle track on the road was concerned about people encroaching into your lane coming in the opposite direction and still having room to maneuver. I try to always scan ahead for any kind of potential hazard but I ride fast and this is just a basic technique.
Intersections: Eye contact at intersections from a vehicle driver setting there or approaching the intersection. Pay attention to the front wheel of a vehicle in the intersection or approaching from another direction as well.
The more light to the front of the bike the better. All motorcycle accidents aren't someone else's fault. They don't see us!
