Those little black specs of road tar, rubber, etc that gets on the heat shields and mufflers. That stuff bakes on. How do you remove it? In the past I've used 0000 steel wool but would like to find something that isn't as harsh. Any recommendations?
Flitz polish worked on the chrome tips last week. Not as abrasive as the steel wool and with a little elbow grease, removes the carbon, rust, tar, water spots, etc.
Just used this last weekend on my exhaust (and all other chrome on my bike) and it worked extremely well. Even took a boot scuff mark off a heat shield.
I use Blue Magic on on my chrome . I haven't found anything better than this to get all tar , bugs , ect of my chrome . This stuff dissolves tar like crazy and it leaves a brilliant shine .
Goop hand cleaner, Rub it in let it sit for a while, rub a little more then wipe it off with a rag and rinse with water. You might need to rub it a bit on the heavier grime with a soft tooth brush but it will lift off the grime. You need to clean it before you use a polishing type compound or you're just grinding the grime into the surface.
I too use the Never Dull quite a bit. Works on a lot of things around the house too. Knock on wood, I've been lucky in that I have not had any boot marks or any stuff on my exhaust.
