Default Review of the 3Guyz Oil Relocation Kit

I wanted to share a brief review of this oil filter relocation kit available from www.3guyz.com

I am not affiliated to 3guyz; I'm just an **** (typical?) HD owner that wants to do his own maintenance.

The review will be in two parts. Part One is a description of what is in the box. Part two is installation and final thoughts.

Part 1

I decided along time ago there is a special place in Hell for the HD Engineer that designed the location of the oil filter on my twin cam FLHRC (2009). Like my previous Evol Road King (1997), the filter is in the worst possible place for you to access. I have seen the YouTube videos of ways to keep the 'mess' small. I never had any luck with keeping the oil from drooling all over the place and into hidden crevasses on my FLHRC. It always seemed like a drip would appear each day for the next four days. For a newer FLHRC, any oil drip is unacceptable!

So I decided to try out the 3guyz oil filter relocation kit. I ordered the kit on Tuesday and it arrived by USPS Priority mail by Thursday.

The kit was double boxed with plenty of packing material around the inner box (see above). The USPS box was crushed but the contents inside the box was fine. So I give 3guyz a plus on packaging!

Each item in the box (less the installation instructions and hose) was packed in its own bubble wrap and secured shut with tape.

As you can see in the following pictures are the main components of the kit. The first picture is the center screw assembly which holds the adapter face to the engine. It has a VITON o ring installed on it. With the center screw are two Parker connectors. Why two loose connectors? 3guys only ships you one hose with two connectors already installed on it. You will take and cut this hose to custom fit your installation. Smart!

Did you notice the black cup washers on the Parker connectors? That is a nice finishing touch. It finishes the installation of the hose onto the connector. Just remember to cut the hose square to the hose during assembly!

Finish is first class as well as the machining on the adapter center bolt. Nice! Another Plus to 3guys.

To the left is the relocation mount that attaches to the frame. To the right is the adapter plate that mates to the location where the filter mates on your engine. You notice the connectors are preinstalled on the plate and relocation mount. Nice touch, leaves one less thing that can be screwed up. The parts appear to be machined. They are of very high quality machining. No unusual marks or chips, dents etc. The finish is first class too. Plus

(The writing on the mount is the patent # for the design.)

The stainless steel set screw is for an optional oil pressure gauge that I did not order. This mount will be low on the frame and to be honest, I will not be looking down to see my oil pressure. We riders have enough issues with keeping the cages from killing us on the road!

The hose is Parker brand as well. It is rated at 250 PSI. Appears to be hydraulic hose (thick wall). Appears to be super strong and will last the life of the mount. Another Plus to 3guys on thinking through the design.

I wanted to wrap up part one by describing the contents and quality of the installation guide. It is seven sheets filled with color pictures and easy to follow step by step "do this", then this, then this......with plenty of "awl ****" warnings to keep you on your toes. There are plenty of color pictures with clear details showing you what to do. It even has a parts list of all the parts in the kit for your reference. Since I have not installed the kit yet, I cannot comment on the accuracy of the directions. Reading through them, the directions seem to be complete and nothing that I read seems to contradict itself. After I install the kit, I will follow up with any post installation comments.

Rating for the installation instructions is neutral for now.

The bad:

I live in a production world and mistakes happen. In this case, my kit did not come with the three sets of sleeves (for different frame diameters) and the pins for holding the sleeves to the mount. A quick call to 3guyz quickly resolved the missing parts. They will be coming to me ASAP. I will revisit this oops after I get the missing parts. Luckily I'm not in a hurry to install the kit. A day or two will not affect me. I truly understand, for others, this might be a big deal. I will let 3guyz resolve the problem before passing judgement.

Hopefully the sleeves will be in soon and I can update this review with part 2, the installation and summary.

Stay tune!

Brian

I don't think it's a joke... Anytime anybody comes up with some worthless unnecessary product, and puts it on the market, there will be somebody else there to buy it.

Thats really interesting, but does this new location decrease your left side lean angle? Or is that on the right? Tough for me to tell.

It's on a trike.....don't think he's worried about lean angle.

If it didn't have the missing part, I'd have thought this was a straight ad for this product. Sure reads like it.
