I just happened to look under my 2011 Sportster 883 Superlow, and noticed there is a missing bolt. I have no idea how long it's been gone and hope it hasn't caused any damage. It looks like it goes to some kind support bracket (and cable) but not sure.
Anyone know what this assembly is that has the missing bolt? AND what size and type of bolt, for replacement?
Kind of looks like a ground strap between two rubber engine mounts. Keeps the engine grounded when rubber is used to isolate the engine. Have you had any electrical gremlins?
Just a guess.
No electrical issues so far. The cable certainly looks like some kind of ground. I guess all I really need to do is remove the other bolt and bring it down to the shop for a replacement. If it continues to run OK, then I guess no real damaged occurred.
It looks to me like a redundant ground cable...IOW they have 2 grounds in case one gets loose or rusted. I believe Harleys back in the 2000s had a redundant extra cable that grounded the risers to the front end. Mine broke on my FXDC when I changed out the bars, and didn't seem to effect anything. I replaced it anyway, as I am OCD about certain things being perfect on my bike.
The cable looks like a ground, for sure - but what about the black metal bar? I can only assume that it's there for structural support, binding the engine sides together (or something). I can only assume.
