If you are selling and the inspection is current, the new buyer can piggy-back on the prior inspection until it expires.
If you are selling and the inspection has expired, you receive a 10-day temporary waiver when you register with DMV which allows you to drive to an inspection facility without risk of driving an uninspected vehicle.

I believe it is till only a safety inspection, not yet an emissions inspection. I fear is only a matter of time the those left leaning Politian's will pass a law requiring emissions testing, hell they already banned plastic straws and soon maybe chocolate milk in NYC schools.... arrrrrg.

Yep, inspection is usually pretty quick around here. Here's what they look for (Generally, some places are more thorough than others)
