Default Oil Cap Rotated Wrong?

I've owned my 2011 Sportster 883L Superlow for a year. I put on a new, narrower, seat and now my leg presses against the oil cap and makes it pop up. Been doing this many times for a few months.

And I realize now that my oil cap is seated 90 degrees from flush. I can't seem to put the cap on in a way that the cap lay flush against the side panel, like it should. When I put it on, it feels solid and sealed, but the silver cap is on rotated, making it protrude.

If it were seated properly my leg wouldn't press against it and make it pop up when I put my feet down at a stop.

Any easy fix that doesn't involve a new cap? I would think I could somehow disassemble the silver cap and turn it or something. But I don't want to mess with it (cheap plastic) unless I know there is a solution.

The cap is rotated for some reason when pressed down and sealed.

Just go out and buy a new one they aren't that expensive and that will eliminate your problem.

Remove your cap and restart it 90 degrees to the right or left. You're starting to install your cap a 1/4 turn out of position.

When I'm doing maintenance on my wife's sportster and this happens I just take it out and try again rotated 90 degrees.

You might get some more answers in the Sportster section of this forum.

That's the first thing I tried, but it only fits in one position. It won't go in 90 degrees to the right or left. But it looks like I may be able to remove the silver outer cap, rotate it, and snap it back onto the core after rotating it. (There looks like there are tabs that I can press to take it off).

After reading some old posts I found that the O-ring is just a bit to thick and prevents the dipstick from turning fully when inserted. The solution was to put a drop of oil on the O-ring and really force-twist the cap to the fully rotated position before pressing down to lock it.

It worked, but considering the entire assembly is made of plastic, forcing the twist is a sketchy proposition. Last thing I want is to have the assembly break-off inside the reservoir. But it worked.

Another option is to buy a slightly thinner O-ring.
