I read that too. However, I am not sure if they are discontinuing that, or the contest they had regarding taking pics of yourself with the tourbook in front of dealers, etc. The article was a little ambiguous about that. The way it read was that they arent using it as part of their riding contests anymore. But, I had to read it a few times to understand that. I could be wrong though.

I hope it's just contest, On page 72 of the latest HOG magazine they say "For 2020 we're retiring the "H.O.G. Touring Handbook " and rolling out two new challenges.....

Default Touring Handbook

I've been getting the touring handbook since 1988.. I have the current 2019 issue and several years prior saved.. I still like to use a Rand McNally road atlas when we travel. GPS will take you on the most direct path. I like to get off the beaten path and onto back roads and trails, I find them to be more relaxing with better scenery. I don't know if I will renew my HOG membership. Seems Harley is getting cheap and offering less. Are the yearly pins and patches next ?

Woohoo...another tracking app. Read the app agreement.

Companies love apps because they get more data on the customer.

It's also mentioned in the "Welcome" message on page 7.
Not surprising since they've already canceled the Enthusiast Magazine a few years ago. The Enthusiast was the oldest continually published motorcycle magazine in the world. The HOG Touring Handbook also previously covered the "Americas", and now is just "North America".
I'll miss it. I kept it in the tour-pak and found it useful.

I read it. Typical corporate doublespeak. Take something away but tell you in such a way to try to make you think you’re getting more.

I always packed mine for general references....But not a HOG member to get it, I belong for the towing package (Road America) and get the unlimited come fetch me deal. As to Maps, I usually lay out a rough idea in Google Maps, then when I get to the state, get a newly released one.... but often go off the route when a “New Road” crosses my path.... but I like pouring over a map in the evening and thinking about the next day’s Journey.

Yep ... maps are still cool ... I read a map and "envision" the scenery that might be near a certain spot ... FWIW most states will send you map free of charge if you visit their state tourist internet site

Maybe not paper, but good maps today are waterproof and tear resistant.
Check out the Butler Maps. I've purchased many of them. Highly recommended!
