I still prefer reading real books, magzines, papers....the feel of paper is soothing.
Me too. I still get about 4 motorcycle magazines in the mail. When they come to an end - so do I. I'll cancel all the subs. I stare at a computer screen 8 hours a day - I'm NOT going home and staring at another screen.
The best thing HD had was the ABC's of Touring contest. Because of it I've been to places I would never have ridden to. They cancelled that a year ago. I really liked the branded bling you got for getting the most points.
Yes, HD is going cheap. Look at all the stuff that use to be standard on bikes - now they're either completely gone or you have to pay extra for them. Cancelling the ABC contest-cancelling the Enthusiast magazine and now the atlas. I think I heard that the seat is going to be an option next year because everyone replaces it anyway.
I hope I didn't give them any ideas.
I think the pins will be next - that's what the AMA did a few years ago.
It's sad when the bean counters get the final say.
I don't think I am going to renew. I've been a member since 1988. Articles on yoga do nothing for me.. I really don't care to much for the direction the company is headed for anyway.. Not the same leadership, made up of Davidson family , no longer any legacy to the heritage of the past, things that made owning a Harley different than other brands.
It's pretty obvious HOG has cut expenses by eliminating the Touring Handbook. Replacing that with a bunch of suggested rides is crap. I like the idea of suggested rides all over the country, but why say it's a replacement for the maps? Must think we are stupid or have really drank the Koolaid they drink in the marketing department.
Oh, and if the suggested rides are supposed to be used on the HD Ride Planner, they can forget that catching on. That app sucks.
they aren't saying that the suggested rides are replacing the touring handbook, but that the suggested rides are to be used in conjunction with your gps. the gps is what is replacing the handbook, because many people have that, and don't use the paper maps.
ride planner works pretty good for me. i can plan a ride at home, then using the app, bluetooth it to my bike, and go.
I hope it's just contest, On page 72 of the latest HOG magazine they say "For 2020 we're retiring the "H.O.G. Touring Handbook " and rolling out two new challenges.....
The HOG touring book had nothing to do with challenges. Idiots!
HOG seems to have less benefits, less rally's and less reasons to be a member every year. I'm not sure where membership money goes to but they will have less every year this keeps up. I do less with the HOG group and more with a close group of friends.
Reading my HOG magazine today I see that H.O.G. Is discontinuing the Touring Handbook (atlas) in 2020 and replacing it a new program called "Ride365" I thought it was the best part of my membership. I'm sorry now I renewed for 3 years. I think they are just being cheap.
I didnt see it in the magazine, but noticed when I got my patches. I would rather have the atlas than the patches or the magazines. I highlighted my annual trips in each one every year for the last 15 years. I love looking back at past routes. I also like to look and easily see the yellow highlighted rides. The online map system is horrible.
If I wasnt a life member already I would cancel my HOG membership.
