some talk about ruining a battery by over charging, so I figure charging ten minutes a day on an unused battery couldn't hurt. Unless the charger acts like load and drains the battery for 23 hours an 50 minutes.

Get a battery maintainer and take out the guess work.

Back in the days before Battery Tenders were invented, the SOP for winter storage was to remove the battery from the bike and bring it indoors, and to give it an overnight charge every three or four weeks with a one or two amp trickle charger.
