How’d you do? What parts would you keep together vs. split up? Any info would be great so I don’t learn the hard way. The cams and bearings are shot. Not worth the fix in my 99.

ill use eBay for specific parts (For now I’m thinking the tins, seat, transmission, hard to sell crap like brackets and such).

On the free local selling resources, I figure to list it for parts, email me what you need.

thanks in advance!

Put the whole bike on Ebay as parts. In the add, tell them email what you want with a quote. Accept or counter. Then create another add for that part. Don't cheat ebay.

I did a 83 Toyota long bed truck with a rusty bed. Figured i would get something for engine, transmission, transfer and dif. So my price was a total of it all. Someone bought the whole thing.
It would have been cheaper for me to have listed it as a whole truck.

FWIW- I once parted out a bike as a flip. I did Craigslist first. Experienced Craigslist users know about the "Search nearby areas" or "Search within blank miles from your Zip" function. So your reach is father then just local sales. I made all my big $$$ through quick sales on Craigslist.

Shipping will be expensive, so price it accordingly. Your price plus shipping may make it unaffordable to buyers. I took a photo of the "If it Fits, it Ships" boxes at my post office. It had the prices right on them.

I looked at what people were asking on eBay. Stuff that was up there for months gave me my plan. I went with 1/3-rd of that and sold everything.

The internet has driven the costs of all items for sale down. It's supply & demand. When I sold the engine, I left it bolted in the frame so the metal shipping straps didn't damage the engine fins when they lashed it to the shipping pallet. That went to Texas from Syracuse, NY.

Also maybe list stuff here on HD forums. You have enough posts to qualify.

Good Luck. Be happy not greedy.....

As mentioned, Sell it whole for parts or mechanics special. Let it be gone the easy way.

In today's market the only way you will sell any stuff like that is to sell it cheap....lots of work and a total pain in the azz for not a lot of money...

put the whole thing on facebook market place for a descent price and it will be gone in a couple of days...

Yep prices have dropped a LOT this year for whole bikes, 2000 -2013 range. Like 20% around here. Often a sign of a looming recession.... well with cars.

i have it half ripped apart as it is from pulling the cam apart. Don’t think I can get what I need to break even selling whole.

Yep.

Unless you're looking for a winter hobby. Don't underestimate the headache associated with having dozens of ebay/craigslist/hdforums listings running at the same time, negotiating with buyers, processing payments, packaging and shipping, etc. Its a PITA.

If its about the money, you'll make more with less time and effort taking a part time job delivering pizzas.

Selling it as a non runner, as is, where is, parts only bike is the way to go.
