My 4th tender has bit the dust in 9 years. I do have 8 plugged in all the time, but i have to wonder why they don't last longer. Deltran takes care of you even if out of warrenty though. Not free but cheaper than buying another new one.
I only have 1 battery. I replaced mine after 10 years thinking it wasn’t charging. Green light never came on.
Turned out is was by pig tail cable from battery to tender cable. Kept it as a backup.
Deltrans battery tender juniors since 2005. Same unit for the bike and one on the sports car bought 2009. Also have 6 volt version for vintage bike. Check your ground and your voltage.
One thing I do as part of the winterizing is i use my full service battery charger to make sure all batteries are at full charge before placing them on the tender for the winter.
If your deltrans are failing, and it is not caused by your ground or voltage, or a weak battery to begin with, then maybe older ones are better quality.
mine get warm, but not hot when charging. Something may be causing yours to over heat.
I have had 2 fail over the years. In both cases the green led would be lit showing a full charge. But in fact it wasn't charging the battery. They both lasted several years. But thinking the battery was charged when it wasn't sucks.
