Should not have asked for advice, I know, ride it. That said, I converted a Tractor Supply style 4x6, 2000lbs trailer. Adding aV front end, which gives me approx. 18 more inches in front of the tires.
weight distribution is (guessing here) maybe 60% front and 40 in the rear. Used once before going 2000 mileswith the 03 softail, this time it would be hauling the 07 rkc. Thought on this set up. Thanks for any help.
It's better to have weight on the tongue anyway. If it worked before it should work again. I assume since the trailer is rated at 2,000 lbs that it doesn't have the tiny 8" or 12" wheels
Actually it's got the 12" buggers, says that each is rated to 990lbs at 90psi, didnt look right, double checked tho. Ran them before at 50 PSI if I recall.

About 10 to 15 percent of total trailer weight ( includes what's on the trailer) is what is best on the tongue, if you can't pick itup and put it on the trailerhitch ball it's too much.
Where are you getting the2000 lb rating from? I can justabout assure you on that size trailer the tires won't be rated for that much, look at the tire sidewall and see what the load rating is and multiply times two and that the maximum totalweight(weight of trailerand load weight combinedtogether)you can safely haul no matter what the axle rating is. Also your tongue hitch should have a max load and pull weight as well.
Just put on a set of Bearing Buddies, keep 'em greased and don't fret over the bearings.
Grease is what counts. My 1985 boat trailer had the original bearings in it until a year or two ago. One day, I was pressure washing and decided to wash the wheels. Even though I had the rubber protector caps on the Bearing Buddies, the pressure washer still forced water in and washed the grease out. The next trip out, the bearings on one wheel blew out in about 30 miles.
I have a 1976 boat trailer with 12 inch wheels. I had it made into a utility/bike trailer 15 years ago. It still has the original bearings in it. It has many thousands of miles on it. It has never given me any problems.
