First off, I have been riding the same shovel for sometime now and and never had much problem. I did have it bored and stroked several years ago, maybe 7,000 miles on the motor now. The problem I’m having is this summer the rear plug would “short out “ for lack of a better word, after about 100 miles. Plug looks good, identical to the front as far as color. Perhaps a little rich but looks fine. Just “shorts out” I tried every brand of plugs I could find but nothing helped. Ended up with 5R6A HD plugs when I parked it for the winter.
I cant figure it out! Normally I can run a set all year without problems. Thought I had an ignition switch problem, replaced it... tah dah same problem! Nobody locally has had an idea hopefully someone here can help save the old girl from a life of collecting dust!
It’s an 82 shovel bored 30 stroked to an 84” (I believe) S&S carb and heads Hi-4 ignition.
Thanks! Factory Finished Bringing the Stroker home! 😂
Well it’s a Harley so you guys may get a kick out of it! 1975 HD SS250cc with a 6” swing arm extension. Burned up the top end this spring at a the Logan Iowa Hillclimb. Apparently the oil injection stopped working! Hopefully up and running by March for Logan again!

please explain "shorting out"
Do you have an ohmeter available to you?
When this happens does the engine keep running on the front only?
If you replace the plug with a new one does the bike fire up?
I do have an ohmmeter. Yes it keeps running on the front cylinder but the rear cuts out, it does keep running but horribly and pops frequently. Soon as I replace the plug it runs like a top again for another 100 miles. The bike is kick only and still has good compression. Haven’t checked it but my 200 lb carcass can still hardly kick it over.
Is it oil fouled or gas fouled ? Can you run it in duel fire mode and switch the plug wires around and see if it runs better. I'm betting something wrong with the HI 4 system you have in there. When it stops running will it restart after it cools down ?
