Couple days after picking up the bike a service tech seemingly joking said they put this bike back together well. Went home and looked it over and on the bottom of the left saddlebag it looks like they packed fiberglass into a large chunk. On the saddlebag rail there is a drag line all the way down, and the outer primary has a scuff at the bottom. To top it off, to the right of the primary the frame has almost a putty put on it to make it look like the frame. This putty can be cut away and you can see where it has been ground down. I owe 10k on this bike and I’ve checked the car fax. I have put 4,300 miles on this bike since Jan. 17th so I’m at 6k miles. Issues are starting to arise and I down want a bike that could potentially be considered salvage. What would you guys do?

Thanks,

Red
Say man, just go trade the bike in on a new one .

Wow. Is yours lowered to do that? My buddy has a side dump exhaust and he drags bag along the very edge with ground flat footboards. I used to race sport bikes when I was younger but that’s crazy.

That’s on the very bottom. It may not look like it in the picture but the rail is one fluid scrape from front to back.

Here’s the frame. I don’t think you can fully make it out in the picture. It’s mostly just what I’ve peeled away of the rubber material.

I’ll let you figure that one out. Guess you’re just grown up and immature forever.

Sounds like you got three choices-
1) Keep the bike. Pro- you have a bike, its not a perfect bike and its potentially a salvage. Con- you hate it every time you ride it or look at it.
2) Sell it on Craigslist to somebody else. Pro- you no longer have a bike that you hate. Con- you are a turd for dumping your **** on some poor unsuspecting dolt.
3) Trade it in. Pro- you now have a nice bike that's not been wrecked. Con- some other person will eventually buy the bike, but that's on the dealership, not you.

Go to or otherwise contact the dealership and start negotiating the purchase of a new bike; don't mention what you have found and hope no one at the dealership reads this thread.

When the negotiations get to the point where you're getting a fair price on a new bike (you certainly should as things are now) then start asking about trade-in value to ascertain the delta. Then and only then introduce what you have found and ask for the full purchase price of your bike as trade-in against a new one.

Tell them you will hire a lawyer and claim consumer fraud and concealment of the damages. Tell them you will subpoena the dealer sales and service records for the bike and depose the former owner. Tell them you would like to handle this amicably but ...

If they start talking about the time and miles you put on the bike - push back and say the concealment was willful. They want to move new units and, hopefully, would like to avoid a legal problem with you. Killing two birds with one stone makes sense for them.

I have a scratched and seasoned Road King that I thoroughly enjoy and fret not over - but it's ten years old and has provided great memories ... all the scratches are mine, including grinding down both floorboards and floor board supports on Tail of the Dragon ... in a light rain! I kid you not; I have witnesses.

Anyways, I love my RK as it is but it seems as though you're not in the same place with your bike, so see what you can do with the dealership or, alternatively, learn to live with it, enjoy it and you go and ride the **** out of it!

DISCLAIMER: I am not a licensed attorney in the State of Georgia and this is not legal advice. In fact, to tot he extent this is advice at all, it's worth what you paid for it; heed it at your own risk and peril.

You left insurance fraud off ha. But yes I could keep it, then it’s a matter of resale value and I’ve overpaid for a downed bike, because I’m not going to lie about it to someone else, except the dealer I purchased from. If they get it back they’re just going to sell it in the same manner regardless if I tell them my concerns.

There is no way those scrapes came from riding it hard. That bike has definitely been down, the dealer lied to you.
