I have this same view. For a daily commute, its nice not having to watch out for someone pulling out in front of you every 1/4 mile...no intersections.

It serves a GREAT purpose of getting you to where you need to go.

Now, if u want to take your time, that is a diff thing all together.

I'm like you, I'd rather take the interstate, fewer traffic lights for one thing, gets me out of my County faster. Plus I like riding fast.

I do not avoid the super slap, I prefer it when doing long distant riding. 2 lane and 4 lane highways with grade level crossings are more hazardous and not maintained well. All my friends that died ridding motorcycles, and there have been a few, lost there lives on 2lane highways, not one on the super slab. I have gained a new perspective on the matter and if I have a choice I will take the interstate. Besides, My 83 flht is not exactly a canyon carver.

I ride the slab if I have to, otherwise I'm all about back roads and 2 lanes.

Gimmie a 4 lane baby.Any day. It's what I did for a living. 11 hours a day, 700+, shut down rest do it again.I never got bored. Some days I wouldn't talk to another human for 3 days. Surprised at the sound of my own voice.Scenic roads are nice but my trust in humanity, especially on a two lane coming at me from the opposite direction left me years ago. All traffic flowing in the same direction is what I dig.

Pretty much my motto too.

Where I live unless you jump on the Interstate you end up having to go thru a couple of towns to get out where the fun stuff is. I hate having to start and stop at lights getting thru those towns more than riding the Interstate.

I use the interstates type road to get out of town. Then look for other roads. If I have the time, I'll break up a 500 miles trip into two days.

But If my riding is at my destination, I've ridden 500-750 miles days in the past 5 years. Used to do 1000 miles days, but haven't had that need since relocating to NC.

Work commute, grind the highway twice a day, run at 80-90mph, 45 miles each way, occasionally take a back road just to chill.

I prefer back roads but I don't avoid the slab. My favorite ride is in the mountain areas near my house and in order to get there I have to run about 20 miles of highway.
There's something cool about ripping along at 70 or so that gets my Spidey sense tingling.
