I too am a Fox Creek fan, they make quality stuff. But you will pay for what you get -- they're not Amazon.

I have an HD motor officer jacket that is the best riding jacket i ever bought. It says HD on the tag only, nothing on the outside at all. Built for durability and all the elements you encounter while riding.

I went to my local Indy and they had some nice jackets.... not sure what brand, but a careful inspection, the jacket is pretty heavy....heavy leather. The stitching looked stout, The liner did not look thin and flimsy, and overall, had a nice, neat appearance. Seems I paid around $75 for it, but that was back in '03-04. What I'm saying is to check your Indy dealers and see what they have. I am not knocking the brands mentioned above, but sometimes you can find a good value. Don't forget the local Craig list or want ads.... used will work too!!!

Wasn't there a guy on here a few months ago selling a nice tasseled white jacket?

HD used to have allot of coats without the BRAND on the front/back/side.
The latest design fad is to plaster the name all over the product.
I have a HD coat but it is an older one (with no obvious markings, HD snaps & inside label) but it is a great design.
The key is to get a coat that you like & that functions the way you want it to.
Riding coats have come along way in the last 30 years (I still have my jacket from the early 80's).
A positive note most newer coats have reflective's built in (a big plus).

I wear a vintage Red Wings jersey

welcome to the boards, brother....Eastpointe here....our city used to be called East Detroit if you'll recall, but when we changed our name, the average property value shot up 10k

all kinds of great options out there...in michigan we are coming into some warm weather soon, you may want to consider a mesh jacket or maybe goretex for the hot humid Michigan summer days

Foxcreek is around $500, which I think is pricey, and gone up. Schott, vanson, will be $800. Which I think is silly.

Also if you are not racing and sliding all the time how thick is needed? I wear good clothes to keep warm, and don't think it does a good job at that anyway. I think people mistakanly thick is better. At some point it is just a waste and heavy. Foxcreek's womens jackets are thinner, does that mean they are unsafe?

I am also curious about Hillside, American made, and around the $350-400 range.

One thing I like is some are going with leather lined inner pocket for gun. Thoough I have never ripped a linning, I use a pocket holster that covers most of it. Most don't have sharp edges. The leather does print and feel odd. I haven't worn that jacket enough to really say how it will break in.

I haven't done a lot of touring since Alaska. But thinking about doing some more down here again. I'll think about textile jacket. Problem with leather is it is bulky whjen you take it off. I have a mesh, I don't wear alot cause usually need something heavier in the morning. I hate screwing around with linings. Would rather layer, or never take it out.

That said textiles are lighter and and I some rain proof. But for my day to day,I just like my leather with all the pockets. Though I know lots of people who just layer flannel or hoodies and go for light clothing in cold weather.
