Default Why is a wide glide front end needed for 21front on my 06' FXDL?

I'm having a really ruff time wrapping my head around why a fxdwg front end is needed to fit a 21 inch wheel on my 06 fxdl. Other option is to relace my stock hub. Cant I just buy a 21x3.5 front rim and tire and just swap it out? I dont k ow if i have a narrow, mid or whatever front end. It seems my 06 dyna low is a funky year because it's the only 6 speed 88ci. Following tear they wend up to 94 or 96ci. Can someone PLEASE explain to me the different dimensions/measurements for my front fork and what is truly needed to throw a 21x 3.5 up front on my bike. Tha is guys.

Fxdl front end. 19x2.5

A 19 inch handles better than a 21 inch. My Low Rider Custom came stock with a 21 and I changed it to a 19. Huge improvement!

I am not sure what is available but if nothing else just buy a rim and spokes and re-lace your existing hub.

That's how I did it. I've heard some people say that the narrow 21" handles like crap compared to the 19" and I've heard others say that it doesn't make much difference. I didn't have a problem with it myself.

A 21" wheel from a Wide Glide will not fit on your current front end, the hub is too wide. That is likely why you are getting the feed back of needing to replace the entire front end. That said, I am confident the aftermarket makes a 21" wheel with the correct hub to fit your application without replacing the entire front end. You need to leave the mother ship and do some more research on the net, good luck.

Default Issue is Rake and Trail!

You need to find the spec for "Rake and Trail" and compare it to what is recommend to be into spec.

Yep, I think a Dyna Wide Glide has a different rake than the Low Rider, could be another reason why a 21" hoop works with it.

I’ve got a 21x3.5 wrapped with a 120/70/21 on a Sportster with mid glide trees. I would assume you’ve got mid glide trees on yours unless they have been changed at some point.
I ordered my wheel from Siouxicide Choppers who had it built by DNA. It has a Street Bob hub which should fit your application. I think it cost me $550-600ish.
