Yup, fire dept's usually will take old helmets and use them for motorcyclist accident scene training. They usually wait until they get a dozen or so, then set up multiple scenarios. Multiple victims, etc.
I just hang mine up in the shop.
On a side note. My friend has a Shoei RF 1200 and he would set it on his sportbike mirror. He sent it in for a warranty issue with the shield hardware. They rejected it, voided his warranty and rendered it compromised. Why? Because the styrofoam inside had a dent from the mirror he would hang it on. He was pissed to say the least.
I hang mine from ceiling in my shop. I've also gave several to kids to hang up in their bedroom. Never met a young boy who didn't like a helmet hanging on his wall to look at and think, "one of these days"...
I have at least a dozen helmets out in the garage. Facebook Market Place is full of used helmets for sale. Good deal for someone who can't afford a high priced helmets. If i needed a helmet so i could ride i would settle for an old bowl.
