Default Is grinding my footbaords when turning good or bad?

I'm a fairly new rider, I have a heritage classic and have put about 3k miles on it,
Everynow and then ill be taking a tight turn and ill scrape my footboards on the road from leaning so much. I usually do it when im making a tight turn, like a wide u-turndoing 20 mph or soI dont think ive ever done it taking a curve in the road doing 50-60+.

I geuss my question is, is it dangerous to be scraping your footboards, can it make you lose control and dump it? It usually only touches for a second or so, its not a continual grinding. Im just thinking if you happen to hit a some imperfection or something in the road it would cause some trouble.

I know people do it, the guy at the harley shop I bought my bike from was bragging about how he could scrape his floorboards when turning, and how people were always wanting him to tell them how to do it.

I just wanna make sure its not something thats dangerous

You won't hurt anything. That's why they're hinged. If you come across a "surprise" like sand while you're doing that you might then have a problem!!

The sound of a scraping floorboard is just a warning that your have leaned over as far as you can. If you lean any more you could lever the tires off the ground. But to answer your question, no it is not dangerous to scrape just the floorboards as long as youheed the warning and don't lean any farther.

MY Springer classic grinds at any tight radius slow turn (On the dragon in TN I prob scraped 190 of the 318 curves lol) its not a big deal as long as you heed that warning, Like Coldmcrider said if you lean farther after that it can bring the wheels off the gorund, then your day will turn bad lol

Try shifting your body weight a bit off the seat, as it will allow you to turn sharper without leaning as much.

It's not a bad thing. However, on my '99 Police the kick stand hits before the floorboard. Since there's no give as there is with the floorboard, it will lift the wheels of the ground. I try to avoid this.

It gets you bragging rights with the guys I ride with. I scraped at least 3" off the tip of my Big Radius exhaust [8D] Got some pretty good scrape actiongoing with the jiffy stand too.

The lean angle is really my only complaint about the Harley - or at least the one I ride.

It will tear up your boards..... the only danger is if you scrap past the point where you go on over.
I wouldnt do it to my ride on purpose.

Its happened to me, usually when taking a turn faster than normal. It always surprises me when it happens, but just keep on riding. I don't make it a practice to do it obviously.
