Default Another Remember When

I thought this might bring back memories for some. Here are a couple of pics of my folks somewhere between 1947 - 51. I wasn’t born until 52 and my Folks did not own a car until a year after I was born. I have an older brother and sister (6 & 8 yrs older) and they/we all rode summer & winter in Ohio. Hearty folks back then, we moved to AZ when I was eight. Bike (I believe) is a 1947/74 Ironhead.

That would most likely be a Knucklehead that's in your picture.

And those jackets! Cost about 1000 bucks each today- if you can even find that quality any more. That was before the Eisenhower Interstate Sytem was completed. Tough birds back then.

But of course Knuckle heads are made of IRON , so technically the OP is correct

Hey OldEnuf, No it wasn’t a Knuckle, I was mistaken, it was a UL Flathead 74, not Ironhead as stated by a blockhead (me) purchased new in 1947. Here is a picture of one I just found on the web, 1948 Harley Davison UL 74 FlatHead sold at a Mecum Auction. Somewhere I have a pic that shows the engine better but I don’t know where now.

I wish I knew which of my cousins ended up with the old photo (taken ca.1942) of my beloved Grandmother mounted up on a mid '30s HD that belonged to one of her boarders.....he was a night shift coal miner and would let her take it to the post-office while he slept to get the mail for everyone that rented a room from her.
she said it bucked like a horse but sure beat walking once she learned the clutch and shifter.
these were ALL dirt roads in Elkhorn W.Va.
Damn I miss her !
