I was at a local Harley store here in PA and someone in finace told me their bike sales are strong averaging 3 units , ( motorcycles ) daily . I won't mention names for their privacy . I guess that is good in the motorcycle world ?
Reminded me of a article I read last week where the author believes the Covid-19 stay-at-home orders around the country was going to have a very positive effect on sales . He goes on to say , " the motorcycle affords the riders a freedom from it all where you don't have to wear a mask . " I guess people realizing how fragile their freedoms really are and how life can end and be changed by our masters in government . So why not by a Harley ?Have always wanted one .
I agree. Used bike inventories are way down at most places here in NE Ohio. That includes dealerships and independents. A very well known used motorsports dealer south of Cleveland supposedly sold 400 bikes and atvs last month. I was in their warehouse which usually contains probably 200+ used bikes. It had maybe 40-50. I was told that an outfit tried to buy their entire used bike inventory and they refused. Most of their used bikes are Harleys, although they are a dealer for Honda, Kawasaki, and more imports.
Maybe there is a little bit of both going on , the pandemic and fear for Harley's future .Putting off buying the Harley of your dreams and maybe I just might have a hard time finding that Harley I want ?
Same here, two indys specializing in Harley have had great sales since they reopened after the lockdown lifted. I bought a (new to me) 1998 Heritage springer at one today, was the 3rd bike they sold today. Both are looking for inventory.
I truly believed that stretched consumer would be dumping their toys (read Harleys) by now, and there would have been tons of bikes for sale, but it seems I’m wrong on that one. At the same time two Harley dealers (same company) didn’t reopen....
My dealer Kane’s Harley in Calgary tell me it has been the best Spring for sales, service and parts in the last several years. Life is precious grab it by the bars
It’s because all these dealerships are getting very limited numbers of additional bikes till the 2021 model year and they are letting their customers know that.
Seems its the same here in the U.K. went to the dealership I use the other day and the sales manager said hed been the only guy that was in and was very busy during the lock down, hed sold a lot of bikes on line and there was an area on the shop floor corralled off full of brand new bikes with sold signs on them waiting for their owners to pick them up.

Well remember that the CARES program has allowed many, over four million at last count, to skip mortgage payments with the ability for many to defer through the end of the year without being assessed penalties. I linked an article from NPR which has Transunion stating that three million car loans fifteen million credit card accounts are currently in some kind of program to skip or reduce payments. That cannot continue forever. We also do not know Harley's Financial arm's current delinquency rate and how much it went up. With many courts either still shut down or operating at low capacity with a severe restriction on evictions and other debt related cases it could be simply piling up.
