Default Cam support plate install question.

Today, I installed my S&S TC3 oil pump and cam support plate into Reaper (2005 Night Train). Everything went smoothly until I dropped a hex bit down one of the lifter bores... So, I pulled everything apart to get the bit out. Thinking about it now, I have a concern: When I removed the support plate to get the bit, I was distracted, and angry, and neglected to double-check that the 2 small o-rings were still in place before putting everything back together. I didn't see any on the ground or anything afterward, while cleaning up. The reason I'm a bit worried that one or both came out is that while I was reassembling the cam chest, I noticed a fair bit of oil dripping out from the left side (looking at the cam chest) of, or from behind, the plate. There is still oil in the tank, but I would assume that it shouldn't be draining into the cam chest with the engine off.

Am I just being paranoid, or do I need to pull it all apart again?

Thanks for any insights.

Cheers!

I just can't take you serious. I am not sure which is worse, dickey referring to himself in the 3rd person, or ever chance you get identifying your bike with your pet name.

I am a bit surprised you have ever seen a cam plate.

I'm NOT a bit surprised you had to chime in with your brain-dead opinion. Every reply you post, on every thread, just reinforces how much of a clueless a-hole you are. GFYS.

It is one thing to have a pet name for your pecker, but damn, every chance you get you bring it up. It is a football bat, and someone needed tell you. Please no hug.

Same for me. I pulled it apart today, and the o-rings were in place. At least now, I am sure and can relax about that.

Cheers!

I woulda pulled the cam plate as well. At the very least I would have made the starter very unhappy and cranked it over with the switch in the off postion and the plugs out until I got oil pressure. As for the dripping, its common. the pump has a pickup in that area (along with the tube that goes into the crankcase) so its a low point. Anything that is in the area is gonna end up there. Its normal.

Thanks. that makes sense. It's my first time inside the cam chest, so I wasn't sure. Her top end is still apart (waiting for parts from HD), so cranking her over isn't an option right now. It didn't take long to re and re the cam plate, and it was worth it for the peace of mind.

Since I had also already installed the lifters, and didn't feel like taking the covers off, etc... I fashioned some "holders" using small neodymium magnets attached to some old bolts, held up using mechanic's wire. Worked perfectly.

Cheers!
