hell, if the cam cover was still off, and the top end not assembled, then its a no-brainer to pull the cam plate. Its only six bolts, and a LOT of piece of mind......

as for the magnets and wire.... Ill file that under "Crude.....But Effective"

OP: Think about working on your mechanical skills; try to concentrate and be more methodical. If there are open holes that can swallow small parts or tools, wad up some clean paper towel and stuff it in the holes or lay a clean shop rag over them. Follow the service manual instructions and don't get ahead of yourself.

This was a "**** happens" moment. I usually plug holes, etc... just rushed a little as I had been at it a few hours, and I was tired.

I had reinstalled the cam cover, but what's another 10 bolts for the peace of mind?

meh, as long as the top end isnt assembled, its a no biggie.
