you need to install a WHIM, plus a Harley brand wireless headset (Boom Audio 20S Evo) that is paired to the bike and turned on, and a phone plugged into the USB port for Apple Car Play to work.
or you could use the wired headset. if you don't mind being attached via cable.

Actually if you have a wired headset the WHIM is not needed, just plug the wired headset in and it works. I will be getting the WHIM and 20S at some point to go wireless but used wired on my 2017 and when I plugged the wired headset into the 2020 Apple Car Play works
Wireless Car Play does exist in vehicles. If you don't have one that supports it you can get an adapter to make it wireless.
I have reached out to this company - https://carplay2air.com/ to inquire about supporting HDs. They already support Honda bikes. They responded quickly and said they are working on it. If enough of us send them a note, it may motivate them to move more quickly. Here is the contact form - https://carplay2air.com/pages/cantact-us
Thanks for all the good advice. Also I've been reading that you can have it flashed to work with out the mic from the dealership with the WHIM installed. Anyone heard on this??
Latest update. Had my bike into the shop yesterday for 1k service and stage 1 tune. Plan was also to have them install WHIM and activate Carplay. Guess what? HD is no longer activating Carplay... even with the WHIM! WTF?!? Parts counter graciously took the WHIM back and refunded. It may seem like a small thing, but the UI / UX on the Boom is crap and I want easy access to Waze, Spotify, etc. while I have 30 seconds at a stoplight. Really pretty frustrated at this. Anyone know of a workaround?

Im going to call my local dealership in the morning and see what they say. I hope they can do it still.
I heard Android Auto still works. Just plug in and it's there... hoping to find a friend with an Android to test it out. I'm not partial to either OS so I'd consider switching to get what I want if Apple is being shitty about it.

This makes no sense. CarPlay and Android Auto are alive and well on the Boom GTS radio. But, to activate you need a mic connected. That can be wired or wireless. No mic, no CarPlay.
