This makes no sense. CarPlay and Android Auto are alive and well on the Boom GTS radio. But, to activate you need a mic connected. That can be wired or wireless. No mic, no CarPlay.
I agree that it makes no sense. I spoke to 4 different people at the dealership as I was in disbelief. All confirmed that as of now, they cannot activate Carplay even WITH the WHIM. The only thing I can think that would trigger this is that HD got in hot water with Apple in some way.
I heard Android Auto still works. Just plug in and it's there... hoping to find a friend with an Android to test it out. I'm not partial to either OS so I'd consider switching to get what I want if Apple is being shitty about it.
Interested in hearing results on this if you are able to test.

Hi,
I was thinking of upgrading to boom gts on my 2017 flhtk. So, apple carplay is not going to work on the gts even after you install the WHIM and connect a wireless headset?

if thats the case, i will opt for Sony XAV 7000.
Thanks.
I traded my 2017 for 2020 couple weeks ago have not installed the WHIM yet but Apple Car Play works fine for me with my current in helmet head set plugged into the bike. I am running the latest boom update

This is a brand new thing where HD doesn't currently have the ability / rights to activate the Carplay with the WHIM combo. I have ordered the wired headset installation kit and when it gets here, I'm going to install and hope that Carplay works.
Can anyone verify that Carplay works if you just have the headset extension plugged in, but not the actual headset itself? The reason I ask is ideally, I just keep the cable wrapped up and out of sight as I have no actual need for the headset.

I think your dealer is clueless. I have updated to the latest software. CarPlay works on my 2019. You have to have a WHIM installed, and you have to have a mic connected weather its one that is a physical plug in or the HD bluetooth K30 like I use.
What HD can no longer do is trick CarPlay into thinking a mic is connected. Last software update eliminates the ability to turn CarPlay on with out a mic connected.

I understand your position here, but the "trick" was eliminated back in June. At that point, since they could no longer perform the work around, I bit the bullet and ordered the $300 WHIM that I really didn't want. But, when I went back to have the WHIM installed and specifically to get the update to activate Carplay with the WHIM, they cautioned me against it as they are not able to activate Carplay AT ALL without the hardwired mic right now. Maybe they are negotiating with Apple to get approval again, but I think they got in hot water for the previous workaround. I asked 4 different people at the dealer just to confirm. If there is anyone who has had Carplay activated within the last week with WHIM, I'd love to hear it.
Since my bike is an RGS, I have to install the mic cable. But what I would like to do is just keep the cable wrapped up under the fairing and ideally just the mic "plug" and not the whole headset hence my question above.

@adwebinc I just went to the shop to test this for you. I plugged in with my helmet headset into my 7 pin comm port from HD. My iPhone was already attached to the usb with an apple cable and it brought up CarPlay after a few seconds...like around 15-20 maybe. My J&M headset has a two piece cord and when I unplugged the lower portion (plugged into the bike) from the upper curd (attached to my headset) CarPlay disappeared.
If you don't want to wear a headset, maybe you could purchase the comm port (already done, right?) and leave a cheap headset plugged in under your seat. There were three headsets in the classifieds today I think. That should give you CarPlay and not require you to wear the headset.
I relocated my comm port to the top of my tank using parts from a Limited. I really like how it keeps the cable out of my way. I have full voice capabilities with my corded headset.

Pic attached.
Excellent. Thank you for testing. There must be a connection loop that senses if the headset is connected. I have the install kit and headset not the way. The used kit even came with a console with mounting port already.
