Question I just don't know Road king or Fat Boy

I bought a 2013 SuperLow because I was not positive if riding a motorcycle would be for me and wanted a minimal investment. After a couple of weeks baring any major accident riding a bike is for me.

My local Harley dealer had offered what I paid for my sportster on trade for a 2018 Fat Boy 114 at a good price. I thought I found my BIKE!

Here is the problem I started reading on the Road King Special and it sounds like it is the essentialy the same performance, power wise, with better handling. I definitely want the 114, yes I know I am a new rider but I like the feel of knowing the power is there. I am pretty sure I am not stupid and know when and when not to use the power, I will also be babying it until I have a good feel for the bike.

Further complicating the problem is the type of riding I do currently is bombing around state routes and back roads but I could see myself later doing some longer rides, knowing this would mean wind shield/batwing for the Road King Special but that is not an issue compared to the windshield, crash bars, and bat wing/windshield for the Fat Boy 114.

It's hard to get to know a bike on just a test ride. Renting one for a day or two does give one a better opportunity to get a better read.

I will look into this but the closest place is a couple of hours from me that rents motorcycles.

have it on the road by ten, back in the barn at four, you can cover an easy 250 miles in those hours and take it where you want. Interstate, two-lane, wherever.

only problem might be is finding a RKS to rent but the difference between a RK and RKS is nothing really in a manner of speaking. It's so slight you won't notice, especially if you commit to that model.

I don't know about renting a FB. I'm positive it's a great platform, I'm biased to the touring bike though.

I’d go with the Road King Special without hesitation.

This is a big difference I am noticing coming from performance cars, motorcycles are so much more customizable (maybe modular is a better term). My biggest fear is wrenching on a bike with limited experience. I am not a great mechanic and have cost myself more trying to do things myself than if I had just put it in the shop to start with. I.E they had to fix what I broke then do the modifications.

The current fat boy has ridiculously wide tires, both front and rear.

Some say it is not a big deal. Others say it is like riding a steam roller and adversely affects handling, requiring more effort to both lean and stay leaning.

I think you should really look at a Heritage,
