There are a couple of towns here on Rt.1 that see daily 3 or 4 mile traffic backups. Most ofthe aircooled bike riders inch along through the mess, just frying their motors.Once in a while you will see the more bold ones riding the breakdown lane.As far as I am concerned they are the smart ones,I do the same thing or change my destination. What would you brothers and sisters do?
I have to ride a connector home from work. The only time I ride the break down lane is if there is an accident that stops traffic. Frequently there are accidents.
Another thing to consider is you're greatly increasing your odds of getting a flat while riding in the breakdown lane. There's usually alot of debris in that lane.
I'll ride down it depending on how lucky I feel. I've been stopped before and air cooled engine isn't an excuse as far as the cops are concerned. One of these days I'll get an oil cooler to help alleviate some of the problem.

Unfortunately your oil cooler is also air cooled and only works when the bike is moving.
If this is everyday traffic I'd find a new route. If it's an accident or construction, I'd either wait in the traffic, or if it's too long a wait, bail out and look for another route. Down here in MA the cops are usually looking for people ridingthe breakdown lanes during contruction or heavy traffic. To me it's not worth the ticket.
